Dr. Brockmeier joined Perry Orthopedics and Sports Medicine in August, 2007 after completing a fellowship in Sports Medicine and Shoulder Reconstruction. He has gained expertise in arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery of the shoulder, knee, elbow, and hip, with a specific interest in sports injuries of the upper extremity. He has advanced experience in arthroscopic shoulder techniques including arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, arthroscopic labral repair and shoulder stabilization, and reconstructive procedures of the shoulder and AC joint. He has a specific interest in the management of shoulder and elbow injuries in the throwing athlete.
In addition, Dr. Brockmeier specializes in reconstructive surgery of the shoulder, including total shoulder replacement, humeral resurfacing, and reverse shoulder arthroplasty, as well as partial and total knee replacements.
Education
Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Dr. Brockmeier earned an undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia, followed by his medical degree at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. He remained at Georgetown for his orthopaedic residency. Upon completion of residency, he was selected to pursue subspecialty training in the areas of sports medicine and shoulder surgery at the renowned Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. He completed a one-year fellowship at HSS under the mentorship or Dr. Russell Warren, Dr. David Altchek, and over 20 other nationally recognized leaders in the field. During his fellowship, Dr. Brockmeier served as an associate team physician for the NBA’s New Jersey Nets.
Team Affiliations
Dr. Brockmeier has served as a Team Orthopaedic Surgeon for the Charlotte Bobcats since 2007.
He is the team physician for the Cannon School and has cared for numerous athletes at the high school, collegiate, and professional level.
Academic Experience
During his career, Dr. Brockmeier has been actively involved in research, with a focus on clinical outcomes after arthroscopic shoulder procedures and molecular alterations in patients with rotator cuff disease. He has authored several textbook chapters, review articles, and peer-reviewed studies and has given numerous presentations in his field of interest.
Personal Interests
Outside of work, Dr. Brockmeier enjoys recreational activities such as tennis, golf, basketball, cycling, and skiing. He and his wife, Kristin, have two sons, Benjamin and Jack.
