Dr.
Perry has practiced orthopedic surgery in the Charlotte area
for 27 years specializing primarily in knee, shoulder, and
elbow surgery with an emphasis on arthroscopic and reconstructive
knee surgery and sports related injuries. He was instrumental
in starting the first sports medicine clinic in the region
and his vast knowledge and expertise has proven him to be
one of the most skilled surgeons in his field treating patient’s
literally from all over the world. After completing his Carticel
training in Boston in 1996, Dr. Perry performed the first
Autologous Carticel Transplantation in the Charlotte area.
In combined efforts with Carolinas Medical Center, he developed
and trained the first Sports Medicine Fellow in Charlotte
and he remains dedicated to teaching residents through the
Internal Medicine Program. Dr. Perry has given numerous local
and national presentations in his specialty as well as publications
in his field of expertise.
Education
Dr. Perry earned his undergraduate degree at Dickinson College
and his medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine,
Philadelphia, PA. He completed his internship at Abington
Memorial Hospital and his orthopedic residency training at
Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia.
Team Affiliations
Dr. Perry served as Head Team Physician for the Charlotte Hornets
from 1987 until their recent move to New Orleans. Currently he is the Head Team Physician for the new NBA team, The Charlotte Bobcats. He also
served as team physician for the WNBA Charlotte Sting, Charlotte
Checkers, Charlotte Knights, and Davidson College from 1985
- 1994. In 1998 he was team physician for the USA Men’s
World Championship Basketball Team and in 1999 the USA Basketball
Pre-Olympic Tournament of the Americas Team . He was privileged
to be appointed as team physician for the USA Men’s
Senior National Basketball Team in the 2000 Olympics held
in Sydney, Australia. Dr. Perry has been highly recognized
for his volunteer work as consultant for the Shrine Bowl,
local high school’s athletic teams, and the Tournament
of Champions Basketball Team.
An athlete himself, Dr. Perry enjoys golf and is an avid
squash player having previously been a nationally ranked player,
and of course it goes without saying that he is a tremendous
fan of basketball serving as a team physician in the NBA for
20 years.
